Hey, hey, hey! We fell off the grid there for a while with the Alpha Wolf announcements, to say the least, but ayo, no worries because we’re back on our grind. Here’s a little throwback to our August Alpha Wolf, Dan The Man Ruiz. Get to know him a little better by reading on and maybe you’ll catch a peep of him putting in work during Open Gym.
Name: Daniel Ruiz
Nickname: Danny
Hometown: Laredo, Texas
Occupation/Major: Accounting
When did you start CrossFitting?
I started Crossfit December 2017.
How did you hear about BattleWolf CrossFit and why did you decide to start CrossFit?
I heard about BW through two friends of mine, Michael and Mau who are both coaches at BW. I decided to start Crossfit because I wanted my workouts to be fun and different everyday rather than just going to the gym.
What are some of your goals in and outside of CrossFit?
My goals in Crossfit are to clean and jerk 315 lbs, squat 400+, deadlift 500, and improve my gymnastic skills. Outside of Crossfit I hope to be both a tax and audit accountant for a top accounting firm and one day own my own cross functional gym.
Describe your diet?
My diet mainly consists of eggs, chicken, red meat, veggies and lots of fruit.
What/Who motivates or inspires you?
The feeling of accomplishment I feel after workouts or lifts is what really keeps me inspired and keeps me wanting more from Crossfit. Someone who motivates me to train hard and smart is Sonny Webster who is an olympic lifter.
What would you tell people who are looking to start CrossFit?
Do not be intimidated by others around you and take it nice and easy from the start. Crossfit is about going at your pace, your level and trying to beat yourself from the day before.
Hobbies outside of CrossFit?
Anything that keeps me active whether it be biking, paddle boarding, swimming, or hiking is what I enjoy.
Favorite Motivational Quote and why?
“I hate every minute of training, But I said, don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion. - Muhammad Ali
Favorite Cheat Meal?
A meat lovers pizza with some breadsticks and wings.
Three must have workout songs are….
Strangely, I prefer to workout with no music. I like to focus and listen to myself breathing so that I can control it better. If I had to choose three songs they’d be, This Is It by Flatbush Zombies, When I’m Small by Phantogram, and LoveSick by Mura Masa.
Assault Bike or Burpees?
Definitely burpees, but I have recently been using the bike more often and have been loving it. It really tests your mental toughness and I enjoy that.
Tell us something that people may not know about you?
Deep down I’m a huge nerd lol, I enjoy school and the challenges that come with it but this online school isn’t it. Another random fun fact about me is that I can solve all sizes of rubix cubes but not that fast.
